The aim of this workshop is to increase your confidence in determining if what you think is an affix (prefix or suffix) actually is functioning as an affix within the words you are analyzing.
We’ll start with high-frequency affixes that are fixed to free bases and develop criteria for decision making.
We’ll then use this to examine some words whose structure is more obscure.
Is <er> a suffix in all these words?
- <water>, <faster> <wander> <drawer>?
